Fiction involves stories about unreal people, places or events. There are no facts just made up stories which are created by people's imagination.Fiction stories help people to look at the world from a different point of view, which in turn help them to better understand the world they are living in.
The expectations readers have for a piece of fiction is that they expect these stories to reflect what is happening in the world, but they do not expect it to portray the real world. When readers read fiction stories they expect to be emotional, in the sense that it would grab their attention and create ideas of pictures in their mind of what is taking place. They also expect to gain enjoyment and learn valuable lessons from these stories even though it is not true. These stories let the reader know what can happen in the real world.
Non- fiction on the other hand is true and factual. It deals with real life situations or practical life events. The information is presented as facts which convinces the reader that the story is true. These stories have valuable lessons and morals which teaches lessons for life.
People's expectations of a piece of non- fiction is to gain knowledge, information and new ideas. They also expect to learn and understand someone's else point of view of the story. Readers expect to know the truth and fact of real life situation and real events that are taking place in the real world. They look forward to get straight forward information which deals with practical life events. In non-fiction stories readers expect to know what happens in the story.
The two articles can help me with my immersion project by helping me be prepared for what is out there in the real world. In the non- fiction article "The Man at The Well" the lesson learned is that bad things can happen to us while we are out there in the real world. There are times we can become powerless and there is nothing we can do about it. In the fiction article "How to Tell a True War Story" I learned that not everything that is put out in the real world can be trusted and believed.
