The Test

In the article 'The Test', Scott Carrier explains how he was hired as a field researcher in Utah. Carrier went on to give details of what he had to do in his job, for example there was a lot of driving involved in his line of duty.Carrier futher explains how he had to visit people and try to find out if they were hiding from paying their medical bill. Carrier pointed out that he had to interview people and try to find out if they ever had the disease schizophrenia.
In response to the article Scott Carrier can relate to the people very well because he was once in their situation, meaning he was sick before but now he is okay.

TWO NEW THINGS ABOUT MY TOPIC

After completing six weeks of research and observations I have discovered two new things about my topic that I never knew before. The first thing that I have learned is that regular consumption of red onions can help prevent heart disease. The red onions help retain the good cholesterol in the body which help fight against heart disease. The second thing that I have discovered is that not getting enough sleep hardens the arteries in the body which can lead to heart disease. It is recommended that six hours of sleep a night can reduce the risk of getting heart disease. Study have shown that people who get at least six hours of sleep a night have a lower risk of getting heart disease.

Marrying Absurd

Joan Didion uses specific details in her essay to describe the Las Vegas- style wedding such as the bride must be eighteen or has parental permission and the bridegroon must be twenty- one or has parental permission. The bride wears a veil and white satin pumps and the bridegroom is dress in a white dinner jacket, and even an attendant or two, a sister or best friend in hot pink. The organist will be playing "When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever" and then a few bars of Lohengrin. The father will then invite the chapel hostess to have a drink at the Sands.Everyone is given champagne ("on the house") except the bride who is too young to  be served. Joan Didion sees the Las Vegas wedding reflecting American culture because there are similarities such as the age of the bride and the bridegroom, the dress code and the use of champagne.

Susie Bayer's T Shirt

The observations that George Parker must have made for his essay paying particular attention to the sensory descriptions are how people all over Africa are wearing the used clothes that Americans once wore but don't want anymore. People gives their clothes to charity not so much to help others but to help themselves so they can write off taxes at the end of the year. It is amazing to see the condition of the clothes that people give to charity. Some of the clothes that are exported to Africa has stains, never washed and are even rejected. They are described as the good, bad, and the ugly because some of it is so disgusting that you won't want to talk about it.Even though some of the clothes was not in good condition, people in Africa were very happy because some of them will go naked whereas for others it was their only means to put quality clothing on their body. The prices of the used clothes were very expensive. The merchant were over charging the people because they wanted to make money. One customer complained you are killing me. Even though the clothes were used, some of the customers were very picky and they would fight to get the first pick. The women's clothing could not be mixed with the men's  garments. The observations and descriptions helped  George Parker make his point because he gives clear and detailed information of the kind of clothing that were exported to Africa. It shows that some people are not thoughtful when it comes to others, they thinks about themselves and making money. They can be selfish, greedy, and unfair. Some people can't afford new stuff and have to content with used or hand down things. George Parker point is to show how people in the world can be so unfair to others.

The Insurgent's Tale

1. Five questions that Tom Downey might asked Khalid are:
     1. Why did you chose to be a soilder?
     2. How do feel about losing your best friend during battle?
3.Did it ever crossed your mind that you will died after been shot seven times?
4.How did you feel when you went to visit your father after you were shot and he slapped you?
5.Why did you chose not to fight anymore and live a normal life?
2. The frame of Downey's essay is the life story of Khalid as a soildier and his after life.
3. What surprises me of the essay in terms of contents are:
     a. How Khalid wanted to settled down and live a normal life by having a family after so many years of fighting.
b.The many times that he was arrested and how he always had a way of escape because there was not enough evidence.
c.How his muslims friends deserted him when he got arrested because they were afraid that their family will be at risk.
d.How his next-door nighbours welcome him home after he was released from prison and his British friends stood up for him.
e.How one old man said that he might doubt his own son but he will always believed Klalid.
4.What surprised me in terms of the writer's style is how he gave many  informative, descripitive detailes of events that actually happen over the  period of years.

Kobe Bryant

The frame of Sager's essay on Kobe Bryant is his personal identity and how important practice is for his success.
What surprised me about the essay in terms of content are how.
1.Sager talk about Kobe's weakness for example, his health history.
2.How a highly skilled basket ball player reads Harry Potter books and
3.How Nike designed a special shoe for Kobe to show how important he is.
What surprised me in terms of style is how Sager uses simple and informal language. He also gave many  details which is very clear to understand.
